About us

The Sustainable Wine Roundtable (SWR) is independent and non-profit, welcoming participation from all areas of the wine industry across the world.

We are building a common vision for sustainability, connecting existing schemes and industry groups to share best practices and agree definitions and standards. We are facilitating a framework that will respect and reflect local conditions and contexts.

How we are organised

A group of passionate volunteers from different walks of the wine industry have been working together to lay the groundwork of the Roundtable.

Pioneering Founding members, with a significant organisational commitment to sustainability, are now joining to shape the more formal structure.

We already have active participation and support from representatives across the value chain: Producers, Researchers, Retailers, Monopolies, Universities, Certification Schemes and Suppliers. And we are committed to ensuring a balance of participation so that we tackle key issues and standards holistically and practically.

We also have a membership category for those who wish to join after July 1 2021 with a scale-based membership fee paid annually. Plus we are delighted to partner with key individuals and non-profit organizations who bring deep knowledge in critical and emerging areas.

Members will be encouraged to participate in and lead task forces and working groups that they have flagged as important.

What can you bring to the table?

The first year

One of the first tasks is to elect a board of directors who will approve a permanent structure and shape the SWR strategic plan and development. But with our priorities top of mind, from official launch in June 2021 to Summer 2022, we are:

  • comparing and benchmarking existing sustainability standards
  • analysing the most relevant metrics to measure impact
  • commissioning research on key issues
